Steam Bent Trug

from 95.00

Jane Crisp is a maker who is totally in tune with the material she works with and the traditions surrounding it. Based in Hale Fen, Cambridgeshire, Jane became interested in the boat building technique of steam bending while living on a boat in the Norfolk broads. These skills have lead her to the use of sustainably sourced timber and locally found wood. Her sculptural forms, curving and intertwining, are intriguing and utterly beautiful.

These vessels have naturally sweeping and repetitive lines, taking inspiration from the Norfolk river bank reeds and Jane's connection to the steam-bending process. Steam-bent in pale ash and joined with copper boatbuilders nails and roves, the strong but light forms are practical and beautiful, if you catch them in the wind they will rock like vessels in the sea.
